JOrn Utzon no era muy conocido hasta que gana el concurso en el año 1956 para diseñar una nueva Ópera en la ciudad de Sídney, Australia. Fueron nada menos que doscientas las propuestas de arquitectos de todo el mundo las que participarían con sus diseños modernos e innovadores. Lo curioso fue que Utzon sólo presentaría un dibujo de su diseño para el concurso. Lo más destacado de esta majestuosa obra es, sin lugar a dudas, la estructura de las bóvedas que envuelven el edificio. Para el diseño de las famosas conchas revestidas con azulejos cerámicos de color blanco, el arquitecto ideó una estructura basada en las diferentes secciones de una esfera; estas bóvedas fueron el resultado del estudio exhaustivo con varias piezas por parte del arquitecto, que formaban parte de la propia esfera.



A partir del año 1964, las complejas bóvedas prefabricadas revestidas de azulejos con formas curiosas empezarían a ser construidas. A mediados de 1965, un cambio de gobierno propició que la obra le fuera cuestionada al arquitecto, por lo que los altos costes y los largos plazos, hicieron que Utzon abandonase definitivamente la dirección de la obra en febrero de 1966. Su hijo Jan, también arquitecto, terminaría esta importante obra que había comenzado su padre en 1973. Esta interesante obra emplazada en el Puerto de Sídney en Australia, sería inaugurada el 20 de octubre de ese mismo año. La famosa Ópera de Sídney, es sin duda, la obra maestra del arquitecto. El arquitecto JOrn Utzon recibiría el prestigioso Premio Pritzker (Novel de la Arquitectura) en 2003. La Ópera de Sídney sería declarada posteriormente Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 2007.

Jorn Utzon was not widely known until it wins the contest in 1956 to design a new opera house in the city of Sydney, Australia. Were no less than two hundred proposals for architects around the world who participate with their innovative and modern designs. The funny thing was that Utzon only submit a design drawing for the contest. The highlight of this magnificent work is, undoubtedly, the structure of the domes that surround the building. For the design of the famous shells lined with white ceramic tiles, the architect devised a structure based on the different sections of a sphere, these vaults were the result of extensive study with several pieces by the architect, who were part of the own sphere.



Beginning in 1964, the complex prefabricated tiled vaults with curious forms begin to be built. In mid-1965, a change of government led to the work he was questioned by the architect, so that high costs and long lead times, made Utzon abandon the direction of the work in February 1966. His son Jan, also an architect, are expiring important work he had begun his father in 1973. This interesting book set in the Port of Sydney in Australia, would be inaugurated on 20 October that year. The famous Sydney Opera House is undoubtedly the masterpiece of architect. The architect Jorn Utzon receive the prestigious Pritzker Prize (Novel of Architecture) in 2003. The Sydney Opera House would be subsequently declared a World Heritage Site in 2007.
