Cómo nos gustaría vivir en el Istmo? Así definían con esta pregunta el propio equipo de arquitectos Iñaki Ábalos y Juan Herreros antes de separar sus estudios de arquitectura profesionalmente para describir este fascinante proyecto que se sitúa en la isla de Gran Canaria y más concretamente en el Istmo de Guanarteme, antiguamente denominado "lengua de dunas y arenas". El istmo es un accidente geográfico no muy común en nuestro entorno urbano más inmediato y en este caso el de Guanarteme dispone de un puerto pesquero en el lado de naciente, mientras que la Playa de las Canteras se sitúa en su extremo opuesto hacia poniente. El Istmo de Guanarteme consiste en una especie de cuello o estrangulamiento de tierra que une la península de Gran Canaria con la Isleta en el extremo septentrional noroeste de la isla.
El edificio se encuentra localizado en la ciudad de Las Canteras y no pasa desapercibido para nadie que pasee por esta zona norte de la isla debido a la gran altura que ofrece su majestuosa torre residencial de 60 metros de altura en su punto más alto. El gran proyecto de uso enteramente mixto ha sido denominado por sus autores con el nombre oficial de "Plaza y Torre Woermann", y se presenta como un "bosque virtual" en el que destaca por encima de todo el espectacular high-rise residencial de 17 plantas de altura sobre la rasante de la calle. La idea de los arquitectos fue la de convertir esta obra en un "paisaje híbrido". En palabras de los propios arquitectos, "La torre Woermann pretende corporeizar las ilusiones, los deseos y las fantasías de una sociedad que busca encontrar acomodo entre la naturaleza y el desarrollo, una forma de vida intensa y fiel al paisaje: otra belleza".
La obra se adapta enormemente al medio ambiente que la rodea y ofrece una puerta de acceso hacia ambas vertientes marítimas mediante una bonita plaza tropical pavimentada con pedrería portuguesa en la que se ha intentado producir sombras mediante mediana y alta vegetación, también con pórticos cubiertos situados bajo las propias edificaciones. La moderna fachada está compuesta por un sistema de muro cortina en el que se ha incorporado un brise-soleil que ofrece una protección solar permanente en el interior de cada inmueble. Los arquitectos hicieron el acertado empleo de bonitos colores para la fachada en la que predominan los tonos verdosos, azulados y amarillos. Éstos, se han confeccionado mediante paneles de vidrio laminado combinados con otros motivos ornamentales a través de los que también se pueden observar maravillosas vistas al mar y la ciudad en todas las direcciones.
El interesante proyecto multifuncional se compone de una torre alta con su característica figura antropomorfa en la que se distribuyen plantas residenciales, una biblioteca, un centro de información, aparcamientos, y un edificio de oficinas de menor envergadura que cierra la plaza lateralmente y se sitúa frente a la torre. Bajo la plaza pública que se ha diseñado específicamente para el mismo proyecto se alojan varios comercios que únen sendos edificios a nivel de la planta sótano. El vanguardista proyecto se ha convertido en un auténtico emblema para la ciudad de Las Canteras y ha recibido una importante mención en los pasados premios Manuel de Oraá y Arcocha en su XII Edición, que premia a la mejor arquitectura hecha en las Islas Canarias en los dos últimos años.

How would we like to live on the Isthmus? Well defined with this question the team of architects Inaki Abalos and Juan Herreros before separating their professional architectural studies to describe this exciting project which is situated on the island of Gran Canaria and more specifically on the Isthmus of Guanarteme, formerly called "language and sand dunes. " The isthmus is a geographical feature uncommon in our immediate urban environment and in this case that of Guanarteme has a fishing port on the side of rising, while the Playa de las Canteras is located at its opposite end to the west. The Isthmus of Guanarteme is a sort of neck or strangulation of land that connects the peninsula of Gran Canaria in the islet at the northern tip of the island's northwest.
The building is located in the city of Las Canteras and not lost anyone to walk through the area north of the island due to the high-rise residential tower offers majestic 60 meters high at its highest point. The large mixed-use project has been entirely dubbed by its authors with the official name of "Plaza and Torre Woermann", and is presented as a "virtual forest" which stands out above all the spectacular high-rise residential 17 storeys above ground level of the street. The idea of the architects was to turn this work into a "hybrid landscape." In the words of the architects themselves, "Woermann Tower aims to embody the hopes, desires and fantasies of a society that seeks to find compromise between nature and development, an intense lifestyle and faithful to the landscape: Another beauty."
The work is highly adapted to the environment that surrounds it and provides a gateway to both sides by a beautiful maritime tropical plaza paved with stones Portuguese which has tried to produce shadows with medium and high vegetation, also located under covered porches buildings themselves. The modern facade is composed of a curtain wall system which has incorporated a brise-soleil that offers a permanent sun protection within each building. The architects made the judicious use of beautiful colors for the facade which is dominated by shades of green, blue and yellow. These have been made using laminated glass panels combined with other decorative motifs through which you can also see spectacular view to sea and the city in all directions.
The multifunctional interesting project consists of a tall tower with its distinctive anthropomorphic figure is distributed in the residential floors, a library, an information center, parking, and an office building smaller square that closes the side and fronts the tower. Under the public square that has been specifically designed for the same project are housed several businesses that connect separate buildings at basement level. The pioneering project has become a real symbol of the city of Las Canteras and has received significant mention in the awards last Arcocha Manuel de Oraá and its XII edition, which rewards the best architecture in the Canary Islands made in both recent years.
