El prestigioso arquitecto Toyo Ito recibía allá por el año 2003 el encargo de dos torres altas para dar la bienvenida a las ciudades del L’Hospitalet de Llobregat y Barcelona desde el Aeropuerto internacional del Prat. Estas vanguardistas torres que se sitúan en la Plaza de Europa y que guardan relación, están formadas por el Hotel Santos Porta Fira y un Edificio de Oficinas anexo destinado a Sede de la Empresa Realia; ambas torres quedan unidas entre sí por un atrio con un precioso jardín en su parte superior. Las preciosas edificaciones ofrecen un gesto simbólico, ya que su diseño está basado en las antiguas torres venecianas que inspiraron a Ito para dar entrada a estas dos ciudades señalando también el lugar donde se encuentra el Centro de Congresos Fira 2 anexo.

Además, durante el transcurso de las obras de ambas torres, se le realizó también al arquitecto el encargo del Vestíbulo de Entrada de la Gran Vía y el Pabellón 1 del enorme Centro de Congresos Fira 2, que se sitúa enfrente de sendas torres y para el que también diseñó una pasarela suspendida y cubierta que ofrece acceso a todos los Pabellones del enorme Recinto; "Este tipo de recintos para ferias suelen ser muy homogéneos y monótonos, mi intención era darle a éste un poco de vida y fluidez". El diseño moderno y vanguardista de color blanco mediante diferentes figuras curvas de hormigón armado, sin duda da personalidad al entorno y unifica ambos proyectos.

Para el diseño del Hotel Santos Porta Fira Toyo Ito se inspiraba en la forma orgánica de una flor de loto; no obstante, su majestuosa fachada está compuesta por una doble piel en la que la pared interior está formada por un cerramiento estanco mediante un sistema de muro cortina, mientras que para la pared exterior se hizo el empleo de unos tubos independientes con sección circular con su característico color rojo y que se van adaptando a la geometría reglada de la torre; "tardamos mucho tiempo en decidir qué tonalidad de rojo iba mejor".

La planta del edificio del hotel va aumentando en superficie a media que va ascendiendo y un núcleo central circular de hormigón armado destinado a servicios, (con la circulación vertical de ascensores, escaleras de emergencia e instalaciones), se sitúa en el centro del edificio. Mientras tanto, las 344 habitaciones y Suites del Hotel Santos se sitúan alrededor de este núcleo centralizado ofreciendo maravillosas vistas a todo el espacio circundante de las ciudades de L’Hospitalet de Llobregat y Barcelona.

Aparte de las aproximadamente 344 habitaciones y Suites con las que cuenta la torre de color rojo destinada a Hotel, en el edificio también se distribuyeron un hall, una gran zona de banquetes, varias salas para reuniones y congresos, un gimnasio, una zona wifi y otras zonas de servicios / Apart from the approximately 344 rooms and suites featuring the red tower designed to Hotel, the building also distributed a hall, a large banquet area, several meeting and conference rooms, a fitness center, WiFi Internet access and other service areas

La Torre Realia queda unida al Hotel por un bonito atrio que cuenta con un jardín en su parte superior y que rodeado de zonas verdes, dispone de un pequeño paseo con salida al exterior desde dos puntos del Hotel Santos. Las diferentes fachadas de este edificio de oficinas están formadas por un sistema de muro cortina que ofrece grandes espacios acristalados retranqueados con respecto a la línea de forjados, que ofrecen una gran iluminación natural de piso a techo en el interior del edificio. La fachada principal, distinta a las otras tres, tiene la particularidad de que sobresale en relieve el núcleo de servicios que se ha situado en este lado y que, aparte de contar con la misma tonalidad de color rojo, representa el reflejo del Hotel Santos anexo. Además, la planta del edificio de Oficinas de geometría ortogonal, tiene la medida exacta para que el volumen del Hotel Santos quepa en su interior.

The renowned architect Toyo Ito received back in 2003, the order of two tall towers to welcome to the city of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona International Airport El Prat. These cutting-edge towers that are at the Square of Europe and of relevance, are formed by Santos Porta Fira Hotel and Office Building Annex intended Realia Headquarters Company, both towers are linked by an atrium with a beautiful garden on top. The beautiful buildings offer a symbolic gesture, since its design is based on the old Venetian towers that inspired Ito to give input to these two cities and noting also the place where is located the Fira 2 Congress Center annex.

For the design of Porta Fira Hotel Toyo Ito Santos was inspired by the organic form of a lotus flower, however, its majestic facade is composed of a double skin on the inner wall consists of a sealed enclosure by a system of curtain wall, while for the outer wall was the use of separate tubes with circular cross section with its characteristic red color and are adapted to the formal geometry of the tower, "it took a long time to decide what shade of red was better ".

Realia Tower Hotel is attached to a beautiful atrium with a garden on top, and also has a small walk outgoing calls from two points of the Hotel Santos. Con el fin de ubicar en un sólo emplazamiento una nueva Ciudad Judicial, ya que hasta el momento las diferentes dependencias estaban repartidas en 17 edificios distintos a caballo entre las ciudades de Barcelona y L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, se convocó un concurso internacional de ideas con carácter restringido para diseñarlo. El equipo ganador del proyecto estaba formado por el despacho de David Chipperfield en colaboración con b720 arquitectos, quienes diseñaron una auténtica Ciudad Judicial agrupando así todos los Departamentos de Justicia de ambas ciudades en un mismo lugar. El enorme complejo de la Ciudad de la Justicia se erigió en un enorme solar donde antiguamente se encontraban unos cuarteles militares en la importante Avendida de las Cortes Catalanas. Los 241.519,92 m² de superficie construida con la que se podía contar desde un principio para el importante proyecto, fueron empleados en la distribución de ocho nuevos edificios más un Atrio de comunicación interna con una volumetría menor que el resto de edificaciones anexas. Lo más destacado de este interesante proyecto funcional son sin duda sus diferentes fachadas de hormigón coloreado que se han convertido en un auténtico icono arquitectónico para este lugar.

El complejo consta de ocho edificios altos con diferentes alturas volumétricas y que coloreados, ayudan a identificar claramente su ubicación. Un elemento esencial en el proyecto lo conforma un bonito Atrio de cuatro plantas de altura que ofreciendo una gran luminosidad y transparencia para todos sus usuarios, hace la labor no sólo de filtro de acceso a las Dependencias Judiciales sino que además comunica interiormente a modo de calle pública cuatro de los edificios principales del enorme complejo; el edificio A (Juzgados de Instrucción, de Familia), el edificio B (Juzgados de lo Penal), el edificio C (Juzgados de primera Instancia) y el edificio F (Fiscalía de Menores). El resto de edificaciones anexas ofrecen un uso más independiente y están formados por el Edificio G (Instituto de Medicina Legal), el edificio H (Jutjats de l’Hospitalet de Llobregat); los edificios J y D (Usos Auxiliares y Complementarios de la actividad judicial); el edificio I (Usos Complementarios Sociales).

Las fachadas están confeccionadas mediante muros autoportantes que por medio de cámaras alojadas tras el muro exterior consiguen aislar el interior del ruido acústico de la calle. Se han empleado seis colores distintos para ocho edificios. Cada color se ha aplicado in situ en la propia dosificación de la mezcla; el pigmento forma parte de la masa y no se ha aplicado después. Los diferentes edificios del conjunto se han situado de forma irregular creando una gran composición acorde con el reto del importante proyecto. Son numerosas las placas fotovoltáicas que se han instalado en la cubierta de cada edificio con el que se consigue un importante ahorro energético. La intención del equipo de arquitectos fue también la de crear una enorme plaza pública que se pudiese integrar no sólo en el propio complejo judicial sino que también pudiese convivir con las dos ciudades integrándose en el paisaje urbano con la ayuda de zonas verdes. En el gran solar donde se ubica la nueva Ciudad de la Justicia se ha dejado previsto un espacio de reserva por si fuese necesaria una posible ampliación.

To locate a site just a new City of Justice, and so far the various units were scattered in 17 different buildings straddling the cities of Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, convened an international competition of ideas restricted character to design. The winning team consisted of project at the office of David Chipperfield Architects in collaboration with b720, who designed a grouping Judicial true City and all Departments of Justice of both cities in one place. The huge complex was built on a huge lot where they were formerly a military barracks in the important Avenda of the Catalan Courts. The built m² 241,519.92 with which he could be counted from the beginning to a major project, were used in the distribution of eight new buildings plus an internal communication Atrium with lower volumes than other outbuildings. The facades are made by self-supporting walls that housed cameras through the outer wall after getting to isolate the interior acoustic noise from the street. Have used six different colors to eight buildings. Each color is applied in situ in their own dosage of the mixture, the pigment is part of the estate and has not been applied later. The different buildings have been placed together in an irregular manner creating a great composition according to the challenge of important project. There are many photovoltaic panels are installed on the roof of each building that achieves a significant energy savings. The intention of the team of architects was also to create a huge public plaza which could integrate not only in the judicial complex itself but also could live with the two cities integrated into the urban landscape with the help of parkland. In the large lot where stands the new City of Justice has made provision for a reserve space in case of need for a possible extension.

La famosa Torre Agbar está inspirada en las formas rocosas de las Montañas de Montserrat, que se encuentran situadas a unos 50 Km. al noroeste de Barcelona; también en el agua y en el color azul del mar mediterráneo, junto con el importante legado arquitectónico que nos dejó nuestro genio Antoni Gaudí. El edificio acoge el registro de oficinas de la Compañía de Aguas de Barcelona (AGBAR) más un auditorio para 316 plazas, una planta destinada a cafetería, varias salas polivalentes y un mirador. La planta del edificio esta compuesta por dos cilindros ovales no concéntricos coronados por una cúpula de cristal y acero, a través de la que se consigue ventilar el edificio mediante una doble piel de vidrio y hormigón, reduciendo enormemente el gasto energético en aire acondicionado.

Las diferentes oficinas se distribuyen a través de 31 plantas diáfanas y en torno al primer anillo interior del edificio. Este núcleo central, que se revistió con nada menos que 59619 lamas de cristal transparente y translúcido, es donde se encuentran alojados todos los servicios mediante la circulación vertical de los ascensores, las escaleras de emergencia y las instalaciones. Son nada menos que 4500 las ventanas que componen la fachada vanguardista y de preciosas coloraciones. Esta conformada a base de chapas de aluminio lacado de cuarenta colores distintos, predominando los colores rojo, verde, azul y gris, y que dan la sensación de ir descomponiéndose a medida que van ascendiendo hasta la cima.

La Torre Agbar se ha convertido en un ejemplo de arquitectura verde y ecológica, en la que no sólo no se han empleado materiales contaminantes en ella, sino que además consigue aprovechar todos los recursos naturales respetando así el medio ambiente que la rodea. El prestigioso arquitecto francés Jean Nouvel dispuso una doble marquesina con perfiles metálicos y vidrio para señalar en gran medida el acceso principal por el que se accede a la majestuosa torre a través de la transitada Avenida Diagonal de Barcelona. El Auditorio para 316 plazas en el que predomina el color rojo, se encuentra alojado bajo la rasante de la calle. Mediante la doble piel exterior innovadora formada por la cúpula de coronación y las 4349 aberturas de las que dispone la preciosa fachada, se consigue refrigerar enormemente el edificio; de esta forma, el aire circula de una forma natural por todo el edificio.

The famous Torre Agbar was inspired by the rock formations in the mountains of Montserrat, which are located about 50 km northwest of Barcelona, also in the water and the blue Mediterranean Sea, along with the significant architectural legacy let our genius Antoni Gaudi. The building houses the offices of the record company Aguas de Barcelona (Agbar), plus an auditorium for 316 seats, a plant to café, multipurpose rooms and a veranda. The different offices spread across 31 open floor plans and the first ring around the building. This central core, which is overlaid with nothing less than 59,619 lamas translucent and transparent glass, is where all services hosted by the vertical movement of the elevators, emergency stairs and facilities. They are no less than 4500 windows that make up the front cutting edge and beautiful colors.
