Con el fin de recuperar una zona deprimida de la periferia de la Ciudad de L'Hospitalet situada en la Avenida de la Gran Vía y en el barrio de Bellvitge, se realizó un enorme proyecto de regeneración urbana con la intención de que el edificio destinado a Hotel, se pudiese convertir en el elemento arquitectónico más visible y atractivo para dar la bienvenida a la ciudad de L'Hospitalet de Llobregat desde el Aeropuerto Internacional del Prat. Además, el vanguardista proyecto que además cuenta con 304 habitaciones, dispone también de un enorme Centro de Congresos de 4.500 m², un Auditorio para 400 plazas, dos restaurantes, un parque y un centro deportivo. Para el importante Proyecto de regeneración urbana de esta zona del L'Hospitalet se destinaron también espacios para bloques de viviendas, hospitales y centros deportivos.
Los elementos arquitectónicos del proyecto liderado por Richard Rogers están formados por la verticalidad propia del Hotel Hesperia con 105 metros de altura, más la horizontalidad del resto del proyecto donde se encuentra el Palacio de Congresos con el Auditorio, una planta técnica y un centro deportivo. Las dos fachadas principales del edificio y que acogen las 304 habitaciones del Hotel Hesperia ofrecen bonitas vistas al espacio circundante muy cerca de las Torres Porta Fira diseño de otro arquitecto de prestigio internacional, Toyo Ito. Estas dos fachadas están orientadas en sentido suroeste-nordeste y cuentan con los elementos de servicio en ambos extremos de forma visible desde el exterior (núcleos de ascensores y escaleras de emergencia), característica esta indiscutible del estilo High-tech (Alta Tecnología) del prestigioso arquitecto Richard Rogers, Premio Pritzker (Novel de la Arquitectura) en 2007.

El núcleo de servicios destinado a los huéspedes del Hotel, se ha ubicado en el lado más próximo a la Gran Vía en su lado sur; por este motivo se han habilitado ascensores panorámicos en este lado. Mientras tanto, la circulación vertical de los ascensores destinados al servicio propio del Hotel se han situado en su extremo opuesto, hacia el norte. La fachada se divide en tres cuerpos, uno inferior con el Hall, el Restaurante del Hotel, varias plantas de oficinas y un enorme atrio de vidrio que hace de unión entre el hotel y el Centro de Congresos; otro cuerpo superior con las difererentes plantas destinadas a las habitaciones propias del Hotel; también un último cuerpo superior que corona el edificio y que dispone del Restaurante mirador denominado "Ovni", que recuerda a la figura de un platillo volante gracias a su característica forma lenticular.
Vestíbulo de entrada / Lobby
El restaurante de coronación del Hotel está revestido por una cúpula de vidrio translúcido que se integra en una estructura metálica. Desde este restaurante singular se pueden observar maravillosas vistas al espacio circundante 360º a la redonda; este sorprendente restaurante situado en la cúspide del Hotel Hesperia no pasa desapercibido para nadie que acceda a las ciudades del L'Hospitalet de Llobregat y Barcelona viniendo desde el aeropuerto del Prat. Debido a la naturaleza débil del terreno, se tuvieron que emplear pilotes de 60 metros de profundidad para soportar los enormes pilares inclinados de sustento del Hotel. El Hotel Hesperia se ha convertido, sin lugar a dudas, en un nuevo icono para el area metropolitana del L'Hospitalet, y ha cumplido con creces las espectativas de convertirse en el buque insignia de este interesante proyecto de regeneración urbana para esta ciudad.

To retrieve a depressed area on the outskirts of the city of L'Hospitalet located on the Avenida de la Gran Vía and the district of Bellvitge, there was a huge urban regeneration project with the intention that the building for Hotel, might become the most visible architectural element and attractive to welcome the city of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat from El Prat International Airport. The architectural elements of the project led by Richard Rogers are formed by self-verticality of the Hotel Hesperia with 105 meters of altitude, the horizontality of the rest of the project where the Palacio de Congresos in the Auditorium, technical plant and a sports center.
