Gas Natural Office Building, Barcelona, Spain

ESPAÑOL

Cliente: Torre Marenostrum S.L.
Arquitecto: Enric Miralles / Benedetta Tagliabue EMBT
Uso: Mixto
Plantas: 20 + 3 bajo rasante
Tipo: High-rise
Altura: 85 metros
Superficie: 30.125 m²

Estilo: Deconstructivismo

Pez, La Barceloneta, Barcelona, Spain

ESPAÑOL

Cliente: Autoridades Locales de Barcelona
Arquitecto: Gehry Partners LLP
Localización: La Barceloneta, Villa Olímpica
Dimensiones: 54 x 35 metros
Material: Estructura metálica y Titanio
Tipo: Escultura Urbana

The superstructure that holds the titanium skin was created by Cathy, an innovative software based on aerospace engineering has been developed by Gehry Technologies major company

Pez, La Barceloneta, Barcelona, Spain

Client: Local Authorities Barcelona
Architect: Gehry Partners LLP
Location: La Barceloneta, Villa Olímpica
Dimensions: 54 x 35 meters
Material: Metallic structure and Titanium
Type: Urban Sculpture

To modernize the urban area of the city of Barcelona with a new Olympic Port to celebrate the famous Olympic Games of Barcelona 1992, Barcelona Local Authorities in charge at the renowned architect Frank O. Gehry a huge sculpture that stood at the beginning of the Paseo de la Villa Olimpica. Gehry was inspired by the simple shape of a fish to give life to this great sculpture that has become a true icon for the city no doubt, the work speaks to the Mediterranean Sea that lies before him. Do not forget that Frank Gehry not only sees all as true architectural sculptures in themselves, but, once those are converted into works of art. This majestic work, called "Fish" is a faithful reflection of this. A Frank Gehry's inspiration for the shape of the fish comes from his own childhood, since he used to play with several goldfish in the bathtub of his house when he was still just a kid.

Pez, la Barceloneta, Barcelona, Spain

It is very important to note that the sculpture "Fish" is a pioneer in the world, as it was the first project of the firm Gehry Partners LLP that was created with an innovative computer software called Catia which was developed by Gehry Technologies Company and is based in aerospace engineering. Through an exhaustive process prior to each work by all members of this prestigious architectural firm, after obtaining a scale model, hand made and presented to the client, with this innovative software is necessary later to scan each vertex of the model. Through this comprehensive and thorough process, manages to create a digital three-dimensional model that will serve to make all the real parts that make up the thousands of parts that make up the structure and skin of each building, the best example of this process it is the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, his masterpiece and certainly meets all these steps. Fish sculpture facing the sea is situated directly opposite the famous Hotel Arts and close to the Tower Mafre office, separate buildings that stand out in this area of the city by its great height and design and were also integrated in the same draft major urban regeneration for the Olympics.

Pez, La Barceloneta, Barcelona, Spain
Titanium, an expensive material with which Gehry usually works if the budget allows, was the unusual material from which the sculpture was coated important fish for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the titantio shines throughout the day according to impact the sun's rays on it, offering beautiful shades of different colors / El titanio, un material carísimo y con el que Gehry suele trabajar siempre que el presupuesto lo permita, fue el inusual material con el que se revistió la escultura pez para la importante cita olímpica de Barcelona 1992; el titantio brilla durante todo el día según inciden los rayos del sol sobre él, ofreciendo bellas tonalidades de diferentes colores

The huge skin of the sculpture is supported by an internal steel superstructure that supports it. Through various bolted and welded metal sections forming a whole with a series of rigizadores to give greater resistance to strong wind, he could shape the structure of the big fish to get to the skin of titanium. The shell of large fish, like a flake, is formed by curved strips of titanium and intertwined throughout the day shine as the sun's rays impinge on them. Titanium, an expensive material and used by the famous architect if the budget allows, get your shine on their own works by different shades of multiple colors under sunlight, that makes titanium a very special material for coating buildings. The dimensions of this huge sculpture icon have 54 meters long x 35 meters wide and certainly not lost on anyone who wander through this important and busy street in the city of Barcelona.
