El Puente colgante Golden Gate luce espléndido como un símbolo indudable de modernidad y progreso en la preciosa bahía de la ciudad de San Francisco, California, Estados Unidos. Atravesando el estrecho Golden Gate, de ahí su nombre, une la península norte de San Francisco con el sur del Condado de Marín, uno de los 58 condados del Estado de California. La bahía de San Francisco, sin este famoso puente, sería una bahía más en la costa oeste de los Estados Unidos de América; sin embargo, este majestuoso puente de color rojo hace que dicha bahía posea una verdadera identidad propia. Dos enormes torres de 227 metros de altura cada una, soportan los grandes arcos de acero que hacen la labor de sustentar el largo tablero de un lado a otro mediante una serie de cables y en una longitud total de 2.737 metros. Con un ancho total de 27 metros, contiene nada menos que seis carriles de tráfico rodado, tres para cada sentido, que ofrecen un servicio diario para la gran afluencia de vehículos que circulan por este transitado puente Californiano.
A ambos lados del puente, dos pasarelas peatonales ofrecen también acceso para las bicicletas. Estas vías peatonales se ven interrumpidas por las dos enormes torres que sortean a su paso por el exterior del tablero. Con una altura de Gálibo de 67 metros, este majestuoso y famoso puente colgante se diseñó también expresamente para dejar paso a los barcos de gran envergadura bajo su paso inferior. Las obras de este famoso puente se inician el 5 de enero de 1933 y finalizan en abril de 1937. La gran inauguración de apertura peatonal se produce el 27 de mayo a las 6.00 AM; la tan ansiada apertura al tráfico rodado se inauguraría al día siguiente. El alto grado de oxidación en la zona de la bahía provocada por el Océano Pacífico, propició el rápido pintado del característico color rojo de la estructura del puente en un tiempo récord.

Golden Gate Bridge looks splendid pendant as a symbol of modernity and progress doubt on the beautiful bay of San Francisco, California, USA. Crossing the Golden Gate, hence its name, linking the northern peninsula of San Francisco to southern Marin County, one of the 58 counties of the State of California. San Francisco Bay without this famous bridge, would be a more bay on the west coast of the United States of America, however, this majestic red bridge makes this bay has a true identity. Two huge towers of 227 meters each, bearing the great arches of steel that make the work of sustaining the long board from one side to another through a series of cables and a total length of 2,737 meters. With a width of 27 meters, contains no less than six traffic lanes, three for each direction, which offer daily service to the large influx of vehicles on this bridge transited Californian.
On both sides of the bridge, two pedestrian walkways also provide access for bicycles. These walkways are interrupted by two huge towers that surround it passes through the outside of the board. With a gauge height of 67 meters, this majestic and famous suspension bridge was also designed specifically to make way for large vessels under their underpass. The works of this famous bridge was opened on 5 January 1933 and ending in April 1937.
