Pyramid of Kukulcán, Chichén-Itzá, Yucatán, Mexico

The Pyramid at Chichén Itzá has become one of the world's most famous works of excellence. Located at the northern end of southeastern Mexico and more specifically in the Yucatan Peninsula, one of the states of Mexico where fortunately still preserved the ancient ruins of the main cities of the Maya civilization. This huge complex of Mayan ruins where you can find this icon puuc architecture, was totally isolated in the middle of the Mexican jungle and was abandoned by its inhabitants for reasons still unknown. Also known as the "Temple of Kukulcan", and was erected in honor of the God of the Maya mythology (God bird-serpent), locally also known by the nickname of "El Castillo".

Pyramid of Kukulcán, Chichén-Itzá, Yucatán, Mexico

It was discovered that it was built on an ancient pyramid that dates the eleventh century AD C above the pyramid is composed of a base of 33 meters square, with nine bases and 17 meters in height to an upper platform which also found a temple. The Pyramid of Chichen Itza was built by both ancient pyramid on a high plain surrounded by green areas and other downtown buildings like the Temple of a Thousand Columns, Temple of the Warriors, the Ball Game, the Observatory and the Sacred Cenote, a huge hole 60 meters in diameter open to the sky in Yucatan, where they sacrificed animals and humans as a tribute to the gods. The Pyramid at Chichén Itzá was built on a quadrangular plan of 55.50 meters and stands side by sloping terraced nine bodies. These new platforms by way of stairs, unable to reach a height of 30 meters which corresponds to the level where it is located a rectangular temple.

The four steps of superior access to the Temple parapets are adorned by two each, they were built at a lower angle of inclination of the nine bases. The parapets overlooking the north facade are decorated in the beginning of two snake heads in honor of the god Kukulkan. Each stairway has 91 steps which added to the rest of its other three sides, results in 364 steps, so that together with the upper level of the Temple would correspond with the calendar year, 365 days. These ancient ruins were discovered in 1566 and described by Diago Fray de Landa in the manuscript known as "List of things of Yucatan." In 1988, the Chichén Itzá pyramid would be declared by UNESCO as World Heritage. Nearly two decades later, on July 7, 2007, the Chichén Itzá pyramid also be declared by popular vote as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Suites Avenue, Barcelona, Spain, 2003-2009

Suites Avenue, Barcelona, Spain

ESPAÑOL

Cliente: Derby Hotels Collection
Arquitecto: Toyo Ito & Asociados
Tipo: High-rise

Suites Avenue, Barcelona, Spain

The new facade designed by Toyo Ito and is inspired by the dynamic motion of ocean waves has become without doubt one of the landmarks of the city of Barcelona in this century

A facade to the Pedrera Gaudi and defined the Japanese architect Toyo Ito own design for the new facade of an office building converted into luxury Apart-hotel is located in the Paseo de Gracia near the famous Casa Mila or La Pedrera. Toyo Ito has always shown to have had special admiration for the work of Antonio Gaudí. In fact, She studied some of his most important and representative as the House and the Parque Güell Battló that served to inspire the design of the Sendai Mediatheque, one of his most notable works, as well as design Tods store in Tokyo. The controversial building project Suites Avenue was much discussed at the outset by local authorities in the old city due to its proximity to La Pedrera Passeig de Gracia.

However, the Barcelona City Council later spoke positively about the project, and even considered that the work will become over time a new architectural icon for this important avenue of the city of Barcelona in this century. The commissioning of the project consisted of Ito remodeling of the facade and interior wall covering of a patio lights for an old office building. The architect came up with the brilliant idea of designing a beautiful facade of undulating forms simulating the movement of ocean waves in tribute to the maestro Antoni Gaudí. "I wanted to venerate Gaudí and correspond to the undulations of La Pedrera, which certainly does not intend to copy. I wanted to reflect the fluidity and dynamism of the waves."

Charles IV Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic, 1357-1503

The Charles IV Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic

ESPAÑOL

Promotor: Carlos IV
Arquitecto: Petr Parler
Uso actual: Peatonal y comercial ( Pintores y artistas )
Tipo de Puente: Acueducto
Material: Piedra arenisca
Longitud: 520 metros
Ancho: 16 metros

Promotor: Charles IV
Architect: Petr Parler
Style: Gothic to Baroque sculptural decoration
Use in antiquity: Carriage, battles on horseback, tram
Current Use: Pedestrian and commercial (Painters and artists)
Bridge type: Aqueduct
Material: Sandstone
Length: 520 meters
Width: 16 meters

History tells us that this important medieval Gothic-style bridge with a majestic and important baroque sculptural decoration, was built to replace an earlier Romanesque bridge called "Judith Bridge, which was built between 1158-1172 and was sadly destroyed due to strong flooding that occurred in the Vltava River in the year 1342. Subsequently, due to the need to communicate the old city of Prague Malá Strana at the other end of the river, King Charles IV ordered the construction of a new bridge in place. A curious fact of the start of construction of the bridge with the laying of the foundation stone was held by King Charles IV himself in the work onsite, and specifically on 9 July 1357 at 5:31 pm. The palindromic number 135797531 (which is read from right to left like that from left to right) was baticinado by the futurists of the time as the most suitable date for the start of its construction.

Detail Charles IV Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic

Charles Bridge IV (Karlův most in Czech) is also commonly known by the nickname of "El Puente de Piedra" (Kamenný most) or "The Bridge of Prague" (Pražský most). This beautiful aqueduct has a total length of 520 meters and 16 meters wide to cross from one side to another. The roof is supported by 16 arches that were built entirely by sandstone blocks. At both ends of each arch were placed two separate pyramid-shaped buttresses to give greater resistance to the pressure of the river water. Another curious fact of the construction of the bridge according to legend, was that egg yolks were used for mixing the mortar that binds all the stone blocks that make up the structure of the bridge and give additional resistance. The bridge has had many uses throughout its long history, since the passage of carriages and horse battles in ancient times, until the passage of trams in later centuries. Currently, the use of the bridge is pedestrian and many painters and artists can sell their works here.

The Charles IV Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic

At both ends of the bridge are located three majestic towers, the highest is at the side closest to the Old City; other two towers adorn the other end close to Malá Strana. Thirty sculptures are mostly of baroque style which greatly adorn and beautify this beautiful medieval bridge. These sculptures, which were built between 1683 and 1714, representing various saints and patron saints. Perhaps the piece that represents the figure of Juan Nepomuceno is the greatest impact has been throughout history, owing to the saint who suffered martyrdom for contempt of King Wenceslas IV, since it is known who was the confessor of the Queen and never King revealed his secrets. This important Santo, after being tortured by the king, was thrown into the river Vltava. The sculptures that illustrate this article on the famous Charles Bridge IV are replicas of the originals that were placed to protect the National Museum of Prague. Charles IV Bridge is one of the most visited and beloved with the famous Prague Castle, and undoubtedly, has become over the centuries in a jewel of Gothic art and Europe's largest the world.
