Seagram Building, New York City, USA, 1956-1958

ESPAÑOL

Cliente: Corporación Seagram
Arquitecto: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Ingeniero Estructural: Severud Associates
Categoría: Edificio Alto
Uso: Oficinas
Altura: 156.97 metros
Plantas: 38
Superficie: 59.457 m²

The Seagram Building was designed by renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and has become a true emblem for New York is one of the most beloved and representative buildings of this city. It is located at number 375, Park Avenue, and has been the headquarters of the Seagram Spirits Corporation from its inception until today. Seagram House, as is well known in New York City, was set back 30 meters from Park Avenue by the famous architect, who helped with this symbolic gesture to relieve the density of New York City by a large square public that it is just at his feet. After its construction in 1961, the location of this important building helped to be created a new law in New York City which required that all new buildings would have to leave open space around them. The building occupies only 40% of the lot where he built, and displayed to the city thanks to this great public plaza paved with granite that gives relief and turn enough prestige to the area. Two sheets of water with a rectangular shape and which are located at both ends on the side of Park Avenue, we welcome the building. He became the first office building in the world in which we used glass panels from floor to ceiling.

The rectangular, with its stunning design, it also became the first building to European modernist ideals matter to the United States by the Bauhaus school of design, art and architecture, together with a small number of important architects as Le Corbusier and Philip Johnson, formed the basis of the well known International Style. It has a base structure of steel beams and a façade with an innovative curtain wall, leaving large glazed areas in each of its plants due to metal support profiles located vertically along the entire facade. The drawing that offers outside the building has a distinctive, as it was designed by the architect in honor of the ancient classical columns, since the bases correspond to the entrance and the lobby, a stem, which resembles the body of the building office, and the capital, shown as the upper termination finish the facade. The Seagram Building was awarded an architectural landmark in 1989 and renovated in 2000. However, it appears as the only architectural work designed Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe (1886-1969) for the city of New York. Philip Johnson also helped design the Four Seasons Restaurant which is inside, and in two rooms, joined together, had a bar and a pool in the middle.

The Red Apple, Rotterdam, Holland, 2001-2009

ESPAÑOL

Arquitectos: KCAP Architects&Planners
Cliente: Wijnhaven Masterplan, Municipio de Rotterdam
Tipo: Edificio Alto
Altura: 125 metros
Plantas: 40
Uso: Mixto

The Draft of -The Red Apple- is located on the island of Wijnhaven, Rotterdam, Netherlands, and comes to completing a draft Masterplan from the years 1992-2002 which was called "Dynamic Transformation". Driven by the Municipality of Rotterdam, has greatly improved the model of life in the downtown area. The major project is located precisely at the tip of the island of Wijnhaven, and is surrounded by the Maas river water on three sides, this strategic location of the work gives it great importance stand out above the other buildings are around, primarily because of its characteristic red color. With this important Masterplan has tried to ancient architecture built in the early 1950s, can live with the new through the rehabilitation of some buildings fusing them with new ones and looking for a balance between both.

The highlight of this exciting project is the beautiful and elegant residential high-rise 125 meters high, stands out above the rest of the majestic whole. The skin of the main building, almost square, is covered by a curtain wall decorated with different aluminum plates with the characteristic red strategically located as a drawing. These red patches irregularly arranged vertically win make the building into elegance and modernity, large glass areas also offer spectacular views of the city in all directions. This beautiful apartment tower recalls the great skyscrapers of Chicago architecture due to its thinness and being surrounded by other buildings of similar height but wide apart.

Another module of great importance and aesthetic for the project looks bright and gorgeous to accommodate different floors of commercial offices. Much of this module flies to the outside thanks to internal metal superstructure that supports it. An open space on the deck modulates open spaces around him offering natural lighting inside much of the office floors. Wijnhaven Island form a bond with the central area of the city and the river Maas, so the beautiful Red Apple Project has become a new icon for this place no doubt. Shaped like an L and a head elevation view and highlighting its innovative high-rise, the project is completed with several shopping centers, plenty of shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and parking, giving life to the downtown area of the city of Rotterdam.

Moor House, London, United Kingdom, 1997-1999

Moor House Building, London, UK, by jmhdezhdez

ESPAÑOL

Cliente: The Moorhouse Limited Partnership
Arquitecto: Foster + Partners
Tipo: Oficinas
Plantas: 19
Uso: Mixto
Altura: 83.50 metros
Superficie: 37000 m²

Moor House, London, England, by jmhdezhdez

The Moor House and Moor House is located at 120 London Wall Street to Moorgate, and offers a distinctive feel in a district that is surrounded by numerous regenerating historic buildings. The highlight of this groundbreaking work is, undoubtedly, the curvature of the main facade overlooking the southeastern part of the building. This "dramatic" curve was purposefully designed by the architect to have not much contrast to the smaller buildings located close by and can reduce its volume.

The building is divided into several levels. The first two floors feature a transparent entrance hall to one side, and two levels of the other who went to shopping center with shops, bars and restaurants. The service core is located in the center of the building, so that the different offices that are around, offering a panoramic view in all directions to the city. The building has 14 elevators and its design allows it to be accommodated in the future three more between levels 1 and 4. The offices are distributed from the third floor to eighteen.

Outside, the building is basically composed of three distinct facades consist of a curtain wall system, combining materials such as glass, aluminum and steel. The western and northern facades are flat, while the south façade provides the characteristic curve that converges on the square in front of the mall. This beautiful square is at the foot of the majestic curved facade gives some air and space to the area because the surrounding streets are very narrow.

A curious fact of the foundation with which they start the Moor House is found to greater depth across London, reaching no less than 57 meters. The reason that the pillars have to start so low was because several railroads ran under the site where the new building was erected. The Moor House was built on the same site where he was formerly also known as the Moor House, an office building 18 stories high that had been built in the early 60s. The new project designed by Norman Foster's team, for his design and art, has become very short time an icon for this city.
