Burj Al Arab, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain, 1993-1997

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain, by jmhdezhdez

ESPAÑOL

Promotor: Autoridades locales y la Firma Guggenheim
Arquitecto: Gehry Partners LLP
Ingeniero Estructural: Idom
Superficie: 24000 m²

Built for European Headquarters of the Guggenheim Museum, was seen by Philip Johnson (1906-2005) as "Best Building of the twentieth century." Frank O. The magnificent building stands as a symbol of modernity and progress doubt that is located in the new enlargement of the Bilbao estuary. Outside, a series of curved volumes connected by a metal structure, articulated by treated glass curtain walls to protect the interior from heat and radiation. A broad staircase to the brink of a place, save the difference of 16 meters in height between the river and the expansion and leads us into the beautiful grounds. They are nothing less than 24000 m² and 11000 m² of total exhibition space. These, hosting 20 galleries and other exhibition hall for large-scale work. The heart of the emblematic work consists of a majestic atrium 50 feet high at its highest point.

The building has an architectural landmark and a pioneer in the world, since its construction depended on Catia, a computer program based on aerospace engineering, with this innovative software is able to scan each vertex of the model of the building completely avant-garde and innovative. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, is undoubtedly the masterpiece of famous architect. The building envelope is composed of elements of limestone and titanium as a "fish scales". The latter material has the characteristic of changing color to go during the day as sunlight, so the beautiful colors shine for themselves by making it a very special material. The building also has an auditorium for 300 seats, a restaurant and two cafes. This work is, undoubtedly, a sculpture in itself. The renowned architect Frank O. Gehry won the Pritzker Prize (Novel of Architecture) in 1989.

Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, Valencia, España, 1991-

CAC Valencia, by jmhdezhdez

ESPAÑOL

Cliente: Autoridades locales
Arquitecto-Ingeniero: Santiago Calatrava

Detail Museum of the Sciences, CAC Valencia, by jmhdezhdez

Architect-Engineer: Santiago Calatrava

The City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia was erected on the splendid old Turia riverbed. Putting a little look back, specifically in 1957, in Valencia there was a sad flood that would cause the inundation of much of the city. Turia River was diverted years later, thereby preventing another potential danger of flooding due to heavy rains. By diverting the river, the city of Valencia won ten kilometers in length and intended exclusively for green spaces, parks, recreation and leisure areas. The huge complex of the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia is situated on the outskirts, in a slightly flat and at the right margin of the final section of the old Turia riverbed.

City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia, Spain

The great work consists of five iconic buildings far more Monteolivete bridge, which Calatrava adapted as contained in the map even before construction this huge cultural complex. So the famous architect instead of building a new bridge, adapted this and included an aqueduct under the underpass. Thus, the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia will be almost entirely surrounded by water. The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, Threshold, The Hemisphere, The Science Museum Príncipe Felipe and the Oceanographic Museum are the architectural constructions that make up the set so far. Currently under construction is the Agora, a huge square and the spectacular deck Sawmill Bridge, which will feature the arched pylon world's tallest when completed. With the construction of this huge work in an area located on the outskirts of Valencia, Calatrava has shown that with simple symbolic gesture to bring can recover many neglected parts of cities, and appreciating the land near them.

Transamerica Pyramid, San Francisco,
California, USA, 1968-1972

Image Transamerica Pyramid © Agus Sutanto for new article in my new Blog¡¡¡

ESPAÑOL

Cliente: Transamerica Corporation
Arquitecto: William L. Pereira & Associates
Ingeniero Estructural: Chin & Hensolt
Categorie: Skyscraper (Tall) -300 metros
Altura: 260 metros
Uso: Oficinas
Plantas: 48

Although the feeling that the Transamerica Pyramid simulate the human figure, the spectacular building is inspired by the shape of the trees in a public park in the Californian city of San Francisco. The incredible vision to build this skyscraper was in charge of the then president of the Transamerica John R. The architect designed a breathtaking building the pyramid shape because of its beautiful facade. This splendid stands on a structure of 16,000 m³ of concrete reinforced with about 487 miles of steel bars. It is designed using frames with some leaning pillars, which linked together, form the seat of the spectacular building. The building is precast clothed with white quartz and has no less than 3678 windows on the facade.

The 47,700 m² comprising the total area, are divided among the 48 floors of the building available. For its pyramidal shape, only two of the eighteen counts lifts with the building, reach the top floor. A pyramid-shaped peak of about 65 meters high with a purely esthetic crown this exciting skyscrapers from the standpoint of structural and architectural. The Transamerica Pyramid, along with the famed Golden Gate suspension bridge, produces one of the world's most spectacular skyline. The imposing design of the Transamerica Pyramid stands out above all the skyscrapers around them. The incredible burst of the structure, turns into an architectural landmark and an example to follow. The building is located in the city's financial center, and is, without doubt, one of the symbols of San Francisco and the United States of America.

Proposed of new Book tittle "FAMOUS CONSTRUCTIONS" Español - English

Before proceeding to develop new books related to modern and contemporary architecture, I felt the need to learn and study in depth the great works of architecture and engineering major and important in all history. Thus, through this comprehensive study to consider as interesting, the idea of devising a new book which I titled "FAMOUS CONSTRUCTIONS".

In this fascinating book I have tried to collect the world's most famous constructions par excellence since the end of the IXX century until the early twenty-first century. The beginning of the book has an extensive introduction which has been a review of the art world from the architectural point of view from its origins to the present day throughout history.

The content is very important make up twenty famous works ordered by the date on which they were built, which define a unique book, which never before had gathered so many important works representative worldwide. Although there could be many more, these twenty "Constructions famous" summarize the evolution of architecture and engineering through the important architectural styles of recent times. Making a tour of the International Style, Art Deco, or more modern styles such as the High tech, the Deconstructivism, or contemporary style, review, thanks to the major design of its creators, the evolution of the most important architectural works of our time .

With the start of the modern era, cities around the world have been nourished by authentic icons designed by true experts. Everyone wants to photograph next to the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, the Golden Gate Suspension Bridge or the Roman Coliseum. People living in a city where he has built an architectural work of this kind, we may feel completely identified with them over time, which gives them a special symbolic value, wherever they were built.

Fazlur Khan (1929-1982), a structural engineer at the time of the prestigious architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, SOM, would design the famous tower of glass coated anodized aluminum and black. Khan introduced some major structural innovations with its trapezoidal design. The highlight of the design was the strengthening of the facade through five modules and steel beams through a cross-shaped, largely favoring resistance to the strong wind of 193 km / h. Khan also achieved with this revolutionary design the interior space of the building was almost transparent, almost without pillars, thus gaining more space in the interior of each plant. The dimensions are being reduced in height, which caused the common hallways and elevators located on the upper floors, were smaller than in the lower floors.

The slope of the windows help greatly to clear the fear of vertigo by building users. A mixed use would be given to this innovative and modern skyscrapers, to accommodate both office floors as the world's highest residences to date. He is currently the 4th tallest skyscraper in the United States behind the Sears Tower, the Empire State Building and the Aon Center in Chicago. The John Hancock Center is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers and has received several major awards. Thanks to innovative external bracing structure reinforced by its facade and black, the John Hancock Center has become an architectural icon and an indisputable symbol of the city of Chicago and the United States.

Cliente: Space Needle Corporation
Arquitecto: John Graham & Associates
Ingeniero Estructural: John K. Minasian
Presupuesto: $ 4.5 Millones
Altura: 184 metros
Peso: 9550 toneladas
Uso: Mixto

Inspired by the Stuttgart TV Tower, the Space Needle was built for the Seattle World's Fair in 1962. The Chairman of the important fair Edward E. Carlson, entrusted to John Graham & Associates to design a lookout tower with a restaurant to be the major focus of the event. The theme of the Fair was the twenty-first century, so that the team of architects John Graham to head, designed a magnificent observation tower with the addition that the upper core 42 meters in diameter at its widest point, was nothing to be in the form of less that a flying saucer. In this core upper house the restaurant veranda was called initially "The Eye of the Needle", then you change the name to Skycity.

This restaurant is located at 160 meters in height and rotates 360 degrees in just 47 minutes to provide an overview of the entire city of Seattle. The design and construction of this famous tower lasted only 400 days and can withstand winds of up to 320 km/h. The foundation weighs no less than 5850 tons and 250 tons of reinforced steel. The tower is removed from the financial center of skyscrapers in the downtown. In the top 24 bars were installed anti-lightning leading electrical potential impacts to the field. Are there are 832 steps to the platform of Skycity. The futuristic design of the tower which resembles a flying saucer, make this tower an architectural icon and no doubt one of the biggest attractions of the city of Seattle.
